Product Overview

Compressed ammonia is identified by the formula NH3. The product reference, GOST 6221-90, describes liquid ammonia in three grades: A, Ak and B. Each grade has its own listed composition limits, making the grade designation an important part of an export enquiry.

The reference material identifies industrial and agricultural applications. Grade B is associated with fertilizer processing and nitrogen fertilizer use, while Ak is the designation listed for export. Buyers should state the intended application and required grade so that the proposed product can be reviewed against a clear purchasing specification.

Grade Comparison

Grade A has a minimum ammonia mass fraction of 99.9%. Grades Ak and B each have a minimum ammonia mass fraction of 99.6%. A minimum nitrogen mass fraction of 82% is listed for Ak and B. These values refer to different specification measures and should be kept separate when comparing offers.

Water is specified by different methods across the grades. Grade A lists water by Fisher's method at a maximum of 0.1%. For grades Ak and B, the water content determined as residue on evaporation is 0.2–0.4%. Include the required test method in your enquiry if water content is a deciding criterion.

Additional Quality Limits

Oil concentration is limited to 2 mg/dm3 for grades A and Ak, and 8 mg/dm3 for grade B. Iron concentration is limited to 1 mg/dm3 for grades A and Ak, and 2 mg/dm3 for grade B. The Ak specification also lists a maximum chlorine content of 0.5 mg/kg.

These differences give buyers a practical basis for identifying the grade to discuss. A request for ammonia purity alone may leave other important quality requirements unresolved, so include the relevant impurity limits in the purchase specification.

Packaging

The catalogue identifies steel cylinders and railway or road tankers as packaging formats. The quotation should confirm the proposed format for the requested quantity and destination. Buyers can also identify their preferred delivery arrangement and documentation requirements as part of the initial enquiry.
